Tombak is a brass alloy with a high copper content. Tombak is a historical term originating from Turkey and Persia and defines alloys
from copper and zinc where the zinc content is below 28 %.
Tombak foil and strip, produced under controlled conditions, are very good for cold forming. Those involved in art and crafts appreciate the various shades of gold colour.
Tombak types
For our thin and ultra-thin foils we use selected pure alloys only.
CuZn15
(DIN: CuZn15 ; UNS: C23000 ; BS: CW 502L (CZ 102) ; ISO: CuZn15)
Tombak with a gold colour, very good for cold forming, suitable for pressing, hammering, embossing.
CuZn12
(not standardized)
Same characteristics and applications as CuZn15; slightly different colour.
CuZn10
(DIN: CuZn10 ; UNS: C22000 ; BS: CW 501L (CZ 101) ; ISO: CuZn10)
Similar characteristics and applications as CuZn15 und CuZn12;
different colour.
Other tombak types
are possible on request assuming there is sufficient demand.
Dimensions
We produce tombak foil and strip in a wide range of thicknesses and widths.
Thickness range Width range*
0.006 mm - 0.010 mm 1 mm - 300 mm
0.00024" - 0.0004" 0.04" - 11.81"
0.010 mm - 0.100 mm 1 mm - 650 mm
0.0004" - 0.004" 0.04" - 25.6"
* depending on thickness and quality
Our foils are produced on coils.
Most dimensions are also available as sheet, cut to length, not levelled.
Narrow slit dimensions, mainly in widths below 8 mm (0.32") are available in pancake coils or on traverse wound spools.
Tempers
We are in a position to produce a wide range of tempers depending on thickness and quantity requested. Typical tempers are soft annealed and hard as rolled.
Surface finish
We can adjust the appearance of our foil surfaces from matt to very shiny.
Applications
Our tombak foils are mainly used in art and craft for decorative articles and as metal leaf. Industry uses tombak foil for heating foils and etch applications.
