Copper
Even today, copper's special properties make this metal an essential, basic material. Copper is a major industrial metal because of its high ductility and malleability. It can be easily formed and it is very suitable for use as a conductor of heat or electricity. Thanks to its anti-microbial properties it is a hygienic material that looks good too.
Physically, copper is a noble metal and its symbol in the periodic table is Cu. It was the first metal to come into general use. Its Latin name, "cuprum", is derived from "aes cyprium" ("ore from the island of Cyprus"). Over 10,000 years ago our ancestors were already using it to manufacture tools and dishes.
Copper: a wide variety of uses and lasting quality
Whether we see it or not, copper is used in many products and technologies in our daily lives:
- Internet
- Mobile telecommunication
- Television
- Radio
- Power transmission
- Medical imaging technology
- Electric vehicles
... and much more.
Copper can be reused over and over again and retains the same quality. Currently, more than half of the German copper production is based on scrap and intermediate products that contain copper.
Three types of copper are particularly important for SCHLENK Metal Foils:
- Copper with a controlled low oxygen content (Cu-ETP / E-Cu58)
- Phosphorus deoxidized copper (Cu-HCP / SE-Cu58)
- Vacuum-melted copper (Cu-OF)
Of course we are happy to provide you with other types of copper as well. As a cold rolling plant, we can process every type of copper.
