Materials

SCHLENK Metal Foils is highly specialized in cold rolling. Primarily, we produce very thin foils and strips from non-ferrous metals (e.g. C11000, C10100, C10300).

Copper

Physically, copper is a noble metal and its symbol in the periodic table is Cu. It was the first metal to come into general use. Its Latin name, "cuprum", is derived from "aes cyprium" ("ore from the island of Cyprus"). Over 10,000 years ago our ancestors were already using it to manufacture tools and dishes.

Brass

Brass is an alloy composed of the metals copper and zinc. Both elements blend very well, which makes brass a very homogeneous material. Brass is mainly used in the industry for general construction purposes or as resistor material.

Tombak

Tombak is a brass alloy with a high copper content: at least 72% copper with a maximum of 28% zinc. As the percentage of zinc increases, the alloy becomes harder. The alloy`s color also becomes lighter, moving from red to golden yellow to light yellow.

Bronze

Bronze is among the oldest known copper alloys (Bronze Age). Its strength is impressive as is its excellent corrosion resistance and good conductivity of heat and electricity.

Silver

Silver is a very workable noble metal with the highest degree of electrical conductivity of all metals. It can be rolled into very thin foils. In addition, among metals silver is the best thermal conductor. It provides very good shielding and anti-bacterial effects and is resistant to oxidation.

Nickel

Nickel is a shiny, silver-colored metal among the series of transition metals. The name nickel goes back to the Swedish mineralogist Axel Frederic von Cronstedt: in 1751 he shortened the Swedish term "kopparnickel", a miner`s curse word for niccolite, which looks like copper ore.

Nickel-silver (German silver)

Nickel-silver is a silver colored copper-nickel-zinc alloy with high corrosion resistance and high strength. Nickel-silver can only be hardened with cold working, e.g. by forging or rolling. Temperatures over 500°C are required to soften it again.

Copper-nickel

Copper-nickel is silver colored alloy consisting of these two metals. In ancient times, copper-nickel was used in coin production; today the alloy is used in the one and two euro coins and in Swiss coins intended for circulation.

Roll-clad composites

A roll-clad composite is a composite material that consists of several different layers of metal. The metal layers may be clad in various thicknesses. The individual layers of a roll-clad composite material are inseparably joined.

Basic production data:

Flexibility is important to us: within these basic dimensions, we can offer you a wide range of combinations of thicknesses and widths.

  • Minimum thickness: 6 µm
  • Maximum width: 660 mm
  • Average thickness in annual production: 29 µm

We use a variety of technologies and equipment to manufacture our special foils. For example:

  • Rolling machinery (including a 20 roll rolling mill)
  • slitting machinery
  • Ovens for annealing
  • Machinery for special treatment

If you have questions or a request, we would be happy to assist you.
