Coatings industry

Effect pigments, aluminium pigments, gold bronze pigments, vacuum metallized pigments, polychromatic pigments

Metallic pigments are used in a variety of applications in the coatings and plastics industry. They create a metallic effect in car coatings (both for OEM and refinishing), coil and can coatings, plastic coatings, general industry coatings, powder coatings, etc., as well as to complete functional tasks (functional coatings), e.g. corrosion protection, primers for ships, roof coatings, reflection, barrier and other protective coatings.

SCHLENK supplies conventional leafing and non-leafing aluminium pigments (cornflakes), high-grade silver dollar aluminium pigments and extremely thin and brilliant foil pigments (vacuum-metallized pigments (VMPs), leafing and non-leafing gold bronze pigments and lamellar zinc pigments as powders, pastes and pellets.

Downstream technologies, such as coating with organic and inorganic materials, enables these products to be used in low off gassing, water-based coatings, weather-resistant powder coatings and coil coatings etc. Production sites in Europe and China offer proven quality control and assurance, intensive research and development and a worldwide sales and application technology network to ensure customer satisfaction.

Automotive

Since the introduction of the two-coat coating system in the mid 1970s, “metallics” have become increasingly popular. Constant advances in the development of coating technology, in binder technology, application techniques and pigment technology make automotive coating one of the paint applications with the highest quality specifications.

Industrial coatings

The family of general industrial coatings unites numerous different coating systems, applications and requirements. The factors that influence the choice of pigment are the substrate, the planned application process, the desired effect, the required film properties and most importantly of course, the nature of the coating system (solvent-or water-based).

Powder coatings

Because there are absolutely no solvents and the overspray can be reused, powder coatings are one of the most environment-friendly coating systems. Metallic effects (aluminium and gold bronze pigments) are used in the coating of tubular steel furniture, automobile parts (e.g. wheel rims), kitchen appliances, tools etc.
